About Reflexology

Reflexology is based on the principle that all systems of the body are mapped out in reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. It is a deeply relaxing, unique method which applies pressure to specific points. Stimulation of over 7,000 nerve endings in the feet help to open up the natural pathways your body uses to nourish and heal itself.

It is believed that reflexology triggers the body's relaxation response, interrupting the pattern of stress and bringing balance to the body and its systems where there is imbalance. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits in the soft tissues and imbalances from touching the feet, hands and ears.

Reflexologists work holistically with clients and aim to work alongside traditional healthcare (like your GP) to promote better health and a sense of wellbeing. We know that symptoms may occur in one area or system of the body, which in fact relate to an entirely different area. For example, headaches may occur as a result of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), rather than something to do with the nervous system. This is why we treat the mind and body as whole.

Auricular Therapy (Ear Reflexology)

This therapy is based on the idea that the body is mapped out on this platform (the ears), as a micro system... just like on the hands & feet. It has a long history, dating back to 500BC.

The ear to brain connection is the shortest and most direct of the neurological micro systems hence why this targeted therapy can be very powerful, effective in pain management, relaxing and therapeutic. Vaccaria Seeds can be applied to the ears after treatment, to further enhance the treatment and assist with self-care at home to address specific symptoms.

Hand Reflexology

Hand Reflexology offers the same healing potential as when we work the feet. It may be offered as an alternative when there is a reason why a client can’t receive reflexology (such as injury). It is also very relaxing.

Working the hands can particularly benefit somebody who is emotionally overwhelmed, older or very ill. The human brain has a large area of nerve pathways related to the hands, so it is very therapeutic. Not to mention the fact that our hands, like our feet, work very hard physically for us every day. This is offered as a standalone treatment, or as an add-on to a foot reflexology session.

RLD (Reflexology Lymph Drainage)

Reflexology Lymph Drainage focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body, with the aim to reducing the symptoms of Lymphoedema. Additionally, in the same way that MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage) is used to treat conditions other than Lymphoedema, RLD may help with symptoms from fibromyalgia, ME/chronic fatigue, asthma, arthritis, eczema, sinus, migraines, headaches, PMS and more.

The Experience

Treatments take place in a warm, well ventilated, relaxing and private room. You will hear bird song and the rustling of the palm trees over the pool at our little sanctuary.

At the start of your first appointment, your feet will soak in a warm epsom salt foot bath whilst we complete a wellbeing consultation form together. This allows me to check for any contraindications and to tailor the treatment to your needs.

From here, you will be made to feel comfortable and supported on my treatment bed, with the necessary support to ensure you will be at ease for the duration of the treatment.

A series of massage-like relaxation techniques will be used to introduce your feet and lower legs to my touch. The well-practised techniques, along with a beautiful NZ made organic foot balm, ensures you will start to feel the stresses of life slip away!

The Reflexology itself is a more specific use of finger and thumb techniques to work each area of the foot using pressure.  The feet are massaged again and we often finish by using a Brazilian Toe Hold or Endocrine Balance, depending on your needs. The entire process is gentle, non-invasive and intensely relaxing.

Many clients do like to be peaceful during the treatment and it is not uncommon for clients to fall asleep. Others do like to talk. I will always take your lead on this, it is your session and I want you to get the best possible outcome during it.

To finish, you will be offered a glass of filtered water, some locally made detoxifying herbal tea and 80% dark lindt chocolate. At this point you will have time to ask any questions about your session.

Some clients may prefer/ be suited to combination sessions, which incorporate the feet, hands and/or ears as required.

One of the most important goals of a reflexology treatment is deep relaxation. I am proud to provide a safe and friendly space for you to feel spoilt, safe, nourished and able to let go. Many of my clients leave the treatment room feeling lighter and brighter, ready to face whatever life is throwing their way.
